Digital television transition = time to buy a new HDTV!

I realize we're all financially squeezed these days with the economy being in the crapper and all, but to me there's nothing better than a new toy to comfort our woes.  With the digital television transition just around the corner, it's a good excuse to go out an buy a new HDTV.

If you're still using an old analog CRT based TV and get your programming from over the air television signals, your choices after 2/17/08 are to either go and get yourself a TV converter box, subscribe to cable or satellite or get yourself an brand new HDTV.

I think the best choice is to uprgrade to a new HDTV.  Granted that everyone is feeling the pinch in their pockets these days, surely I believe it's a purchase many can still afford to do.  After all, HDTVs are more affordable now than they've ever been.

A popular form of TVs for people these days are flat-panel TVs--everybody loves the concept of being able to hang a TV on the wall.  If you’re looking to add a flat-panel TV to your home, or give one as a gift (with the Christmas a couple months away), you’ll probably want to know a few things before you hit the stores.

First of all, the question of plasma vs. LCD.  The plusses and minuses between the two have blurred, and today’s plasmas no longer have the dreaded “burn-in” problem of sets past.

As far as resolution goes, remember this:  the higher the number, the most lines of resolution on the screen, therefore, the better the picture.  720 is good, 1080 is better.  The letter next to the number tells you how often the image is redrawn – “I” is for Interlaced, and means half the picture is refreshed at a time, “p” is for progressive, meaning the entire picture is regenerated – P is better, but more expensive.

My vote for best bang for the buck brand of HDTVs goes to Vizio.  You can find Vizio HDTVs at places like Walmart and Costco.  Whatever you choose, make sure you SEE the TV working in the store to make sure you like the image.
